6/30/2026 TUESDAY OF THE 13TH WEEK OR ORDINARY TIIME

Greetings.

I would dare say that as kids we all pretended to be someone else. We all had our hearo who we looked up to. They may have been from a favorite show on the TV or a book we have read. Them all had some kind of “superpowers”, “able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.” Whatever it may be, we all played at pretend.

As we grew up we all came to understand that these were not real persons, nor were we able to be like them. But some of us turned not to the comic book hero to a real life one. We begin to look to those that others hold up in heigh esteem. There are those who feel their worth lies in what others feel about them. Their self esteem just seems so low that they need others to hold them up in high esteem.

This is not to say that we all need others to giver us affirmation. We all need positive feedback from others on what we do. That is how we learn of our shortcomings so that we might be able to do better in the future.

I was watching an old showing of Gray’s Anatomy. Having a background in hospital work, I like reliving those days. In one of the shows, the commentator said the following regarding the issue. “The world of pretend is a cage not a cocoon. We can only lie to ourselves only so lone.

These word could not be more true. These words can also be applied to our faith. We cannot believe in the fact that saying our devotions or prayers are like magic, that is the number or the way or where we may say them does not depend on if they will be heard. We need to understand that our faith does not depend on how many prayers we say during the day, or what prayers we say, nor to any particular saint. The important point is that we PRAY. May God give us peace.

Peace and All Good,

Fr. Vinnie, fcm and the

Bros and Srs of the

Franciscan House of Prayer.
