I have had the blessed opportunity, as some of know, to have been able to study in the Holy Land. It is an opportunity that, when I asked my Abbot if I should go, he told me that I would never get such an opportunity again. He was so right
The Bible is a book that we all should take time to study. I know this can be considered a “pipe dream”.
In reading the Psalms, I was stuck by the words of Ps. 91:5-6, where it says, “You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.”
Scripture scholar Frank H. Ballard tells us about Ps 91 that this psalm, “suggests a young man with buoyancy and expectancy. He Praise is genuinely religious, i.e., it is the praise not of self-confidence but of one whose hope is rooted in God.”
These words were written thousands of years ago, yet these words ring clear and bright today as they did the day the author put pen to parchment.
Maybe we need to take this book off the shelf, dust it off and open it to see what God has to say to us today as He spoke to those who read these words so many years ago.
