7/16/2026 THURSDAY, FEAST OF OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL.

Greetings. Today we remember Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Mt. Carmel is a hill overlooking the northern city of Haifa in Israel. It is here in the very early days of the Church men took refuge as a place where they could find solitude and quiet to live a life of prayer.

In time, more and more came to the top of this hill and in time a community called The Brothers of Our Lady od Mt. Carmel was formed.  It is believed that here Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock. In time this community came to be know as the Carmelites.

The Blessed Virgin Mary, you well know, holds a very special place in our Church. Some say that we worship the Virgin, but that could not be farther from the truth. This because we have always held, “Through Mary to Jesus.” Mary is the one who points and guides us to her Son.

St. Francis de Sales tells us today, “Let us run to Mary, and, as her little children, cast ourselves into her arms with perfect confidence.”

Peace and All Good,

Fr. Vinnie, fcm and the

Bros and Srs. of the

Franciscan House of Prayer.
