Greetings.
Well just the other day we celebrated the feast of the Archangels, today we celebrate our Guardian Angels.
We find a great number of references of them in both the Old as well as the New Testament. (Ps 91:11, Isaiah 63:9, Matt. 18:10.) and many others.
As I mentioned on the feast of the Archangels we have sometimes relegated these spirits to fairy tales, and bedtime stories. But if we read the number of times these spirits are mentioned in the Bible, and the number of saints who have mentioned them in their writings, we may have been too quick to dismiss them.
The great philosopher Soren Kierkegaard would sometimes used St John Clemacus as a pen name. He gives us this thought today. “Do not be surprised that you fall everyday; do not give up but stand your ground courageously. And assuredly, the angel who guards you will honor your patience.”
Today, we might just say “hello” to this guardian who is always at our side. A truer friend we will never find.
