7/23/2026 THURSDAY OF THE 16TH WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME

Hello.

There is a story of St. Francis of Assisi that tells about when out walking to a village, Francis came across an earthworm that was crawling across the walking path. Francis not wanting to step on it, pick it up and moved it off the path to a grassy area and let it go. Francis saw that this earthworm was a creature of God. As in all creation Francis saw God.

Joni Eareckson Tada, “All life is created in the image of God and worth our greatest efforts to preserve and protect and He alone is the one who should order the length of days.”

Francis was named the Patron of Ecology. We have stories of Francis preaching to the birds and the fish. We have stories of him taming wild animals. Remember to wolf of Gubbio? The list goes on. Needless to say, some of these stories may be fanciful but they get the point across.

Not only do they get the point across, they also stand before us as what we also are called to do. TAKE CARE OF THE CREATION THAT GOD HAS GIVEN US!!!

So, hang a bird feeder, feed the pigeons in the park, sit in a quiet place in a quiet spot and soak in God’s creation. Don’t go through this life with eyes wide shut.

Peace and All Good,

Fr. Vinnie, osf and the

Bros and Srs of the

Franciscan House of Prayer.
